I was just talking to some students the other day and they reminded me about last year when we were the runner up for the best in delco. After only 5 short years of being opened we were the runner up. I was happy and excited that this happened, but I was more proud that me and our staff have been able to help enough people to make that happen. We love what we do. We do not work do much with everyone to win a award or because it is just a job. This is what we love to do. Thank you all for those votes and maybe this we will win. If we don't, its ok, we will just continue the same awesome classes as always :)
Burning calories is what you hear all the time and this is the key to losing weight or burning fat. Your body needs energy to work and we call our bodies energy, calories. Keeping your heart rate up throughout your kickboxing class will ensure you get the maximum results from your class. Our instructors encourage and push you to keep moving during the entire class. Even doing the punches and kicks slower is better then standing still or sitting. Once you get the that point when you feel like you have to sit down, that is the point where you make the most progress. It takes time to learn how to get there and pace yourself so you can get the maximum calorie burn from your kickboxing class. It is definitely not easy, but its worth it.
I hear from time to time that people start our kickboxing classes and they do not lose weight. In some cases they see their weight go up a little. The first question I ask is " are your clothes fitting more looser?" In my case every time the answer was yes.....? Confused? Ill explain. The fact is that muscle weighs more then fat. Our fitness kickboxing classes are a great combination of cardio and muscle strengthening, or toning if you prefer that. We are not lifting weights, we are just doing a high energy workout that causes you to burn fat and in the process we are doing exercises that help you build tone muscle. So what happens is you lose some fat your pants fit better and you replace that with tine muscle and the number you see on the scale might not actually change. This is just one more reason you will love our fitness kickboxing classes.
Your attitude makes all the difference in your workout. I was talking to someone over the weekend who has been involved in the martial arts and fitness for pretty much his whole life. We got talking about the "cardio kickboxing" craze that started and how it has changed. He was telling me about when he started "cardio kickboxing", it was a great workout and really intense. The instructor would be in the front of the class with the music and doing the punching and kicking to the beat of the music and it was fun. But then he went to an actual kickboxing class where they taught actual kickboxing and the instructor worked 1 on 1 with everyone to show them how to really hit a punching bag instead of just kicking in the air. He worked on how to turn his hip into the kick and that increased the effort he had to put into the kick. Anyway, we were talking about how I teach my class that way.I like to teach people how to kick correctly so they get the best results from class. They will get the results they want because of the instruction I give. Just to be clear VictoryKickboxing.com is not "cardio kickboxing". Don't get me wrong, it is a GREAT cardio workout, but we get to hit bags, and do lots of fun drills and exercises also to build strength. One thing I learned, and I still see from time to time, is back when this "cardio kickboxing" became a huge hit people would go to these weekend seminars and learn how to teach these classes. So you could sign up for classes with someone who had just learned to this a couple month ago. At victorykickboxing.com we are martial artists and we know how to teach you to punch and kick correctly just like you would learn if you were taking a real kickboxing class. The only difference is you do fight with us. Haha. I am looking forward to helping everyone this week in class. :)
This Saturday is picture day for our Tae Kwon Do program. This means there will be no kickboxing classes this Saturday. I am sorry, but the photographer has to be here an hour early to set up and he takes up a lot of room. So be sure to get your workout in this week :) Ill see you soon.
Proper breathing is very important during your workout. I am always reminding people to breath out on every punch or kick. Not a lot, just a little. No one forgets to breath in, but the breathing out part is what is forgotten. You can not breath in unless you breath out. Try to breath into your lower abdomen. I tell people to try and push their belly button out. If your shoulders are moving up and down when you breath then you are not using your full lung capacity. Lastly when you are in between combinations, or workouts, or if you listening while the instructor gives you the next drill, this is a good time to try and slow down your breathing. Try to breath in for 2 seconds and breath out for 4. Then try to breath in for 3 seconds and out for 6. The key is that you breath out twice as long as you breath in. This will help slow your breathing down.
What makes a workout great? Fun, music, great atmosphere, high energy instructor..... The list goes on and on. I have seen many different fitness classes and I hate when I don't see the instructor working one on one with the people in class. One thing that makes our classes so great is our instructors and black belts. We know how to punch and kick and we know how to help you punch and especially kick better, stronger, and faster. I get to help someone do a kick better in each class. This makes them feel better and it makes me happy knowing I was able to help someone. If you want to see what I am talking about give us a call and come in.
Here is a chart that equates how many calories you need to burn to lose 1 pound of fat. Now lets remember that muscle weighs more then fat. This is why I encourage people to take a picture of themselves before they start taking our classes. You are going to get a great cardio workout to burn calories and also build tone muscle. Another benefit to having more tone muscle is that it burns more calories at rest then fat does. So the more tine muscle you have the more calories you will burn when your not working out. Now its not that much because you are resting, but it is still something :)
You would think breathing is something we all know how to do. Well when it comes to working out we sometimes forget haha. No one forgets to breath in. But you can not breath in unless you breath out. So during a class if you do a punching combination on the bag and you do not breath out you then have to try and quickly breath out and then in before you do the combination again. This usually results in people "holding their breath." Anyone that lifts weights will tell you that is a bad idea. So when you are doing our combinations on the bag we work on breathing out each time we hit the bag. This was at the end of the combination we have already taken out breath out, so we can can now breath in. Out with the bad and in with the good :) Keep this breathing in minf next time your in class. Have a marvelous monday.
Positive thinking is super important in life. It takes a lot of positive attitude to stick to a routine workout schedule. There will be days where you feel tired or there might be things going on in life that can unmotivated you and make you feel like not working out. But surrounding yourself with positive people, listening to motivational material, and keeping negative thinking and negative talk out of your head will help keep you on the right track in the right state of mind to get the most out of your workout and to keep you on a routine schedule. Never underestimate the power of positive attitude :)
